Hudson + Associates Architects is becoming XIGAE Architecture....AND WE ARE HIRING!
The name of our firm is based on a Greek-based word, "Exegesis," meaning a critical explanation or interpretation of a text. More literally, it describes the process of pulling something apart to understand it fully - akin to what we do as Architects - to understand our clients' project needs, to know how an existing building is built, and to imagine how an idea or solution might respond better to its surroundings and the lives of those we impact.
Craig Hudson, the firm's founder, formed Hudson + Associates Architects late in 1999 after managing partnerships with a few other architects since 1979. The firm was based at Strawberry Banks in Hampton, but moved to Downtown Norfolk after a disastrous fire in 1985. The firm relocated back to Downtown Hampton in 1995. In Fall of 2013, Richard Corner bought out Craig's share of the business, and Craig retired happily to Florida thereafter. Fortunately, Keith Mushenski, who worked with Craig since 1993, remained aboard and has helped maintain and grow the firm's success to where it is today.
XIGAE Architecture designs for new construction, alterations, renovation, historic preservation, interiors and master planning. We undertake small projects and very large projects. We do it all....and partner with out-of-house engineers to get it done. We specialize in schools and building repair and renovation. Where we go from here is up to our great clients.
I've been in the profession since graduating from UVA in 1981, and have practiced in various firms in Hampton Roads. Acquired interest in the firm from Craig Hudson in 2013. Lifelong resident of Virginia Beach. Been married to wife, Kim for 30 years, and we have two great, grown children. For leisure, I like to build stuff; but mostly enjoy fun travel with Kim. No grandkids yet, so I tend to work a lot, too. Born again, thanks be to God; and I'm blessed with many great friends. What little time is left I spend in the yard and playing with our dogs.
I joined the firm in 1993, relocating from Detroit, Michigan with my wife, Cathy, where we grew up. I graduated with a degree in architecture from Lawrence Technological University in 1991. While managing projects, I also manage the firm's computers and network. And I've learned a lot about roofing over the years - Richard says 'more than one person should know in a lifetime.' Cooking and woodworking are my passions outside the office, and I now own 22 different hand planes. Now living in Suffolk, we have one son. And life's so good here that my mother moved down from Detroit!
I graduated from Virginia Tech's College of Architecture in 2003 and worked locally ever since. I joined the company in 2011 and manage projects. I handle drawing production as well as write reports and studies. I enjoy working directly with clients and our consulting engineers. Lifelong resident of Hampton. Not married yet, either; so I have lots of spare time when not in the office to do whatever I want, which includes travel, photography, reading and maintaining my robust knowledge of everyone and everything in the City of Hampton.
I received an Associates’ Degree in Specialized Technology from the Triangle Institute of Technology in Erie, PA in 1983. I grew up in northern Pennsylvania, along with my Wife, Terri. We relocated to Virginia in 1984. I worked for several years as a draftsman at Newport News Shipbuilding, and two other firms before joining this company in 2011. We have three grown boys, two are married, and now enjoy two grandchildren. When I'm not in the office or out on the motorcycle, you might find me out in the woods hunting.
